Nigeria and Iran played out the first goalless draw at the 2014 World Cup in Curitiba on Monday evening.

African champions Nigeria made a good start and tested Alizera Haghighi through Chelsea winger Victor Moses, but the Iranian keeper was equal to his effort.

Emmanuel Emenike then pounced on some poor defending, before putting a low cross to Ogenyi Onazi, but the Laziok midfielder fired his effort wide.

Despite being comfortable with the result, Iran had the best chance of the half when Reze Ghoochannejhad came close, tested Vincent Enyeama.

Shola Ameobi was introduced to add another option for Nigeria and he came close, firing over the crossbar, before a header in the final minute was saved well.

Iran held on for a good draw, but the boos rang round the ground from the fans of the Nigerian national side.
