Bale sets sights on Spanish double

Real Madrid ace Gareth Bale has his sights firmly set on winning the ultimate double of the Champions League and La Liga title as he heads into his second season with the Spanish giants.

The 25-year-old winger enjoyed massive success in his first season at the Bernabau following his record-breaking £85m arrival last summer, winning the Copa del Rey followed by the Champions League.

The Welshman firmly believes with Madrid’s trophy-hungry all-star line-up – which includes Portuguese idol Cristiano Ronaldo, French forward Karim Benzema, latest £63 signing, Colombian World Cup hero James Rodriguez along with highly-rated German newcomer Toni Kroos – Madrid will firmly cement their place at the top again with at least two major awards this season.

Los Blancos kick off their European season tonight with their Super Cup fixture against Spanish rivals Sevilla and looking ahead, Bale told ESPN: “Every season we want to win every trophy we’re in for. We’ll be trying our best to win the Champions League and the Spanish League again.

“It was a great season last year winning trophies, but the most important thing now is to win the Super Cup and it doesn’t matter who scores the winning goal. We’ll work hard again to try and try to win the trophy.”

This evening’s Super Cup clash will see Wales international Bale play in his home town Cardiff, but he said he will not be focussing on being home as his attentions are strictly on the tournament.

“It’s great to be back home but the most important thing is to win the game and the cup,” he said.

“We need to focus on that and not on me playing in my hometown. I don’t feel pressure of being back home, it’s another game and another one I have to put 110 percent in to perform at my best.”

Real Madrid the most successful Spanish team in history, having collected 32 Spanish League titles, 10 Champions League titles and 19 Copas del Rey amongst many other awards for their sparkling trophy cabinet.

Tonight’s Super Cup challenge will see the Spanish heavyweights strive to get one-up against Sevilla in the competition, as the two sides are one-a-piece in their history books. Sevilla were winners of the Super Cup in 2006 and Madrid seized the glory in 2003.
