Everton winger Kevin Mirallas has revealed Atletico Madrid made moves to sign him during the January transfer window.

The Belgian international has been in superb form of late and has gained interest from a number of European clubs, including Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund, whilst we reported earlier this year that the reigning Spanish champions were also keen.

Miralles, who had been subject of a move to Tottenham Hotspur, has recently stated his desire to leave Merseyside in search for Champions League football and he further discussed the interest being shown in him to La Capitale on Thursday.

“There have been offers and enquiries, but no real negotiations. January isn’t the ideal month for a transfer,” he said.

“I have never said I absolulety want to leave Everton. I like it over here, but I feel ready for a new challenge.

“I dream of playing in the Champions League next season. With Everton of with another club. I just have to see after this season. Don’t forget, the 2015 Europa League winners will qualify for the following season’s Champions League.

“I’ll make a decision after the season. I like the Premier League, but Spain also tempts me. Atletico have enquired, but there was no offer.”
