Debuchy passes medical for Arsenal

France international right-back Mathieu Debuchy has passed his medical with Arsenal and his move from Newcastle is expected to complete in a matter of days.

The 28-year-old French defender has long-since been a target for Arsenal and looks set to be one of two possible first summer signings for Gunners boss Arsene Wenger following his seal of approval from the Arsenal medical team this morning.

Initial reports outlining the agreement for the player stated that a fee of £8M had previously been agreed with Newcastle, but the latest figure stands at £11M with the deal having not been finalised as yet.

With Arsenal right-back Bacary Sagna headed north to pastures new in Manchester City, fellow Frenchman Debuchy will be brought into the side as his direct replacement to form part of the Arsenal back four along with centre-back duo Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny.

Debuchy’s move to Arsenal comes just a 18 months after he signed to Newcastle from French Ligue 1 side Lille.  He featured in 29 of Newcastle’s Premier League fixtures last season and his move to Arsenal will see him feature in the Gunners’ quest for European success via the Champions League next season.

Arsenal are also reported to be on the brink of signing Chilean winger Alexis Sanchez from Barcelona, for more details see here.
