Africa’s richest man eyes up Arsenal takeover

Nigerian billionaire Aliko Dangote has revealed that the prospect of buying Arsenal is still very much in his plans.

Talking to Bloomberg Business, the 58-year-old, who made his fortune in oil and sugar, stated that he hopes that “one-day at the right price, that I’ll buy the team…I might buy it, not at a ridiculous price but a price that the owners won’t want to resist. I know my strategy.”

The Nigerian tycoon failed to buy a stake in the club in 2010 but that has not put him off tabling any future bids. He’s now worth approximately eight times as much as he was when he made his original bid, and it’s unlikely he’ll be priced out of any future hopes of buying his stake.

However, Dangote has voiced his criticism of current Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger, and he has claimed the Frenchman “needs to change his style a bit”, stating that the club need “new direction”.

So, it’s likely that if Dangote is successful with his bid to buy his beloved Gooners then he won’t be the only new face around the Emirates.
