City star reveals racist abuse

Richards

Manchester City defender Micah Richards has told his Twitter followers that he was racially abused in Dubai last night.

The 25-year-old is currently on holiday after failing to be considered for the England squad competing in this summer’s World Cup in Brazil, and revealed how an enjoyable evening was marred by the unsavoury incident.

Right-back Richards, who can also operate in the centre of the defence and has played for the Three Lions on 13 occasions, also blamed rap artists for their frequent use of racial slurs.

He believes the high-profile singers give the general public an excuse to use the derogatory terms.

Richards said: “People think racism doesn’t exist but you’re so naive! A great night in Dubai spoilt by racism.

“These rappers need to stop using the ‘n’ word. People think because they say it it’s ok.”

The defender is widely-expected to leave City during the summer transfer window after enduring an injury-hit 2013-14 campaign.

He made only 10 appearances last term, playing little part in the Blues’ Premier League title triumph or League Cup glory.

Now he finds himself even further down the pecking order, with experienced Frenchman Bacary Sagna having joined on a free transfer from Arsenal to provide competition for first-choice right-back Pablo Zabaleta.

Richards has only 12 months remaining on his contract at the Etihad Stadium.
