Eden Hazard pens new Chelsea deal

Belgium midfielder Eden Hazard has signed a new five-and-a-half year deal with Premier League leaders Chelsea.

The 24-year-old, signed for a reported £32m from Lille in 2012, has impressed on all fronts this season, gaining interest from the likes of Real Madrid and Paris Saint Germain.

However, his new deal with Chelsea is now likely to put such talk to bed and will earn him a reported £200,000 per week to remain at Stamford Bridge.

This new deal is set to calm some nerves at Stamford Bridge after interest from elsewhere.

Hazard has been in scintillating form this season, having being involved in 17 goals in 29 appearances. 11 goals and six assists.

‘I am very happy to sign a new contract with Chelsea,’ Hazard said in an interview for the club’s official website. ‘Since I came here in 2012 I have always felt good and the club has been very supportive to me.

‘The manager has helped me improve a lot, the fans have been fantastic and I have an amazing understanding with my team-mates.

‘I always try to give pleasure to the supporters with my style of play and it is nice to know they appreciate my work.

‘I hope we can repay that support by winning lots of trophies, beginning with the Capital One Cup at Wembley, and after that, we can push hard towards the end of the season.’
