Berahino and Ideye help West Brom move away from relegation

Tony Pulis’ inspired West Bromwich Albion beat Swansea City 2-0 on Wednesday evening at the Hawthorns.

Swansea, still without Gylfi Siggurdsson and Leon Britton, were looking for three points away to take them to the supposedly safe 40 point mark.

West Brom were looking to climb away from the relegation zone this evening.

Both teams started well, with chances taken at both ends. The 13th minute saw a West Brom’ James Morrison’s corner to Craig Dawson was headed towards the post, to be saved by Lukasz Fabianski.

Swansea’s Neil Taylor picked up a yellow card in the 35th minute for a wreckless challenge on Callum McManaman.

The 41st minute saw Swansea’s best chance at a goal from Bafetimbi Gomis, with the Frenchman’s strike saved by Ben Foster.

The second half saw both team’s having chances, with Jonjo Shelvey’s free kick saved by Ben Foster. Until the 60th minute saw Berahino’s cross the ball to Brown Ideye hit the back of the net to make the game 1-0.

The 74th minute saw Berahino and Ideye partner up again, with the Nigerian international, who looked as though he would be leaving West Brom during the January Transfer Window, passing to Berahino inside the box to score the second West Brom goal.

Although Swansea had the higher percentage of possession throughout the game, they didn’t take advantage of the numerous free-kicks that were awarded to them. Villa saw opportunities and played them, without a lot of trouble from this Swans side, gaining them an important win and the crucial 3 points that take them to 14th in the table.
