Manchester City are monitoring the situation regarding Napoli boss Rafael Benitez as they seek a replacement for Manuel Pellegrini.
The Spanish coach has been negotiating a new deal with the Serie A side but is now said to have stalled on a new contract after learning of interest from England.
Benitez is keen to return to the Premier League and would ideally like to manage again close to his family home on Merseyside.
Liverpool have shown interest but it is understood that they are happy with Brendan Rodgers’ efforts in recent weeks.
Newcastle United have also been keen as they seek to find a permanent manager ahead of next season.
However, Corriere dello Sport now claim that Man City officials are considering Benitez as a potential replacement for Pellegrini.
The Chilean boss is under heavy pressure to deliver a trophy this season and failure to do so is expected to see him relieved of the job.
