De Jong turns down approach from Milan in favour of Man United move

Former Manchester City midfielder Nigel de Jong has turned down a fresh approach from AC Milan in favour of a move to Manchester United.

The Netherlands international will see his current deal expire with AC Milan in June and he has been granted permission to speak with interested clubs after failing to agree terms over a new deal, leading to initial contract talks with Man United.

The former Man City midfielder spent two and half years at the Etihad stadium and is keen to return back to the English city and link up with Dutch boss Louis van Gaal.

Van Gaal is keen to link De Jong up with international team-mate Daley Blind and offer extra cover for his defence.

De Jong has struggled in Italy along with Milan, who have slipped further and further behind the leading sides in Serie A.

The Dutch midfielder is also attracting interest from French side Paris Saint Germain, Spanish side Valencia and Italian champions Juventus.
