Press Room: Poyet blames poor start, Ramsey delighted

Sunderland boss Gus Poyet blamed a poor start for Sunderland’s 2-0 defeat to Queens Park Rangers, whilst his opposite number, Chris Ramsey, was delighted with the win.

Goals from Leroy Fer and Bobby Zamora in the first half handed QPR their first Premier League away win of the season, and Poyet was certain in his post match comments that his side’s slow start was to blame for the defeat.

“It was not a great start,” the Sunderland boss told BBC Sport. “Everything was planed to start very fast, but we didn’t find a way to do the right things.

“We went forward and we had crosses and we had chances and we had penalty appeals. The boys tried everything possible, but what we had done in the first 20 minutes was just too expensive and we paid the price. Robert Green had a fantastic game.”

Meanwhile, Chris Ramsey, who took over on a caretaker role from Harry Redknapp last week spoke of his delight at getting a first away win of the season for the London side.

“It’s a very important result. It’s been a long time coming. We have had some good away performances but we just haven’t had the rub of the green,” he told Sky Sports News.

“Rob Green was in fantastic form and our back four worked well together. The goals that we got were great and a good quick fast start was important for us. The boys kept the momentum up throughout the game.

“It’s nice from a visual point of view to see yourselves above the [relegation] line. We need to stick together and continue to perform like that.”
