Cristiano Ronaldo’s agent, Jorge Mendes, has defended the Portuguese attacker after he was criticized for partying following Real Madrid’s 4-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid on Saturday.
The former Manchester United forward was helpless as his side crashed out 4-0 losers to city rivals Atletico and allowed their potential seven point lead over Barcelona to slip down to just one.
Ronaldo has since been criticized for holding a birthday party on the same night and is said to have upset a number of coaches and fellow team-mates by his actions.
However, his agent, Mendes, believes the 2014 Ballon d’Or winner was correct to continue with his plans.
“It is not easy being Cristiano Ronaldo,” he told Cadena SER.
“He is very upset about the images from his birthday that have come out. It was meant to be a private celebration.
“He could not postpone his birthday party because all his family and friends had already come to Madrid, even if he was very disappointed by the defeat against Atletico Madrid.
“The people should support and help him. He is the best professional in the world, an example to follow and he will set this right.”
