Chelsea target wrong to confront fans, admits Mancini

Inter Milan coach Roberto Mancini has told striker Mauro Icardi that he was wrong to confront fans after the defeat to Sassuolo at the weekend.

The Argentine attacker was strongly linked with a January exit from the Italian side with Premier League leaders Chelsea making contact with the Milan based club, however, the former Barcelona youngster remained in Italy.

Poor form and mixed performances have seen Roberto Mancini’s reign as Inter boss be questioned of late and the defeat to Sassuolo on the weekend further saw the fans hit out at the players, resulting in an unsavory incident which saw Icardi throw his shirt into the crowd, only for it to be hurled back at him.

Icardi then lost his temper and reacted furiously to the fans and Mancini voiced his displeasure at the behavior of his striker.

“Icardi made a mistake, because we need to accept criticism,” Mancini said at a press conference.

“I told him he shouldn’t have gone to the stands, because it was only to be expected that the fans would be angry.

“Having said that, the Inter fans have always stuck with the team and I’m sure they’ll continue to do so.

“We’re all disappointed with the way it’s gone for us in recent matches and I can understand the fans’ bitterness.”

Inter have dropped to 13th spot in the Serie A tabl, after winning just once in five games.
