Man United edge closer to Barcelona full-back deal

Manchester United are confident in signing Barcelona defender Dani Alves after the player’s agent admitted he could leave the Catalan club.

The Brazilian full-back will see his current contract expire at the Camp Nou in June and is fairly relaxed about his future at present, having turned down the opportunity to begin earlier talks over an extended deal with the La Liga giants.

Alves is said to be keen on playing in the Premier League before his career comes to an end and Barcelona have planned for his exit, having kept hold of Martin Montoya and signed Brazilian Douglas last summer.

United boss Louis van Gaal is a huge fan of the 31-year-old and is thought to be preparing a deal for when he deal expires in June.

Alves’ agent Dinorah Santana insists no new contract is on the table and that he would be open to a move elsewhere.

‘He will give his all whilst he is here, that’s all I can say,’ he said. ‘We’ll have to see.

‘He may renew but if he needs to move, he’ll move. Sometimes things come to an end and there is interest from other clubs.’

Alves joined Barcelona in 2008 from Sevilla and has made over 300 appearances for the Catalans, winning the Champions League twice and La Liga title on four occasions.
