Liverpool set to complete deal for Premier League striker

Liverpool are set to attempt to complete a deal for Burnley centre-forward Danny Ings, before Monday’s transfer deadline, the BBC have reported.

Liverpool are keen to add some much needed fire-power to their front-line, with the likes of Mario Balotelli and Rickie Lambert flattering to deceive following their summer moves to Anfield, and it now appears that the Merseyside outfit have turned their attention onto the Burnley man.

Should he complete the deal for the 22-year-old before Monday, Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is to loan the Southampton-born player back to Turf Moor for the remainder of the Premier League season as part of the agreement of the transfer, to aid Burnley’s survival chances in the top-flight.

The Clarets currently sit in 17th position in the Premier League, and Sean Dyche’s side would be unwilling to fully cut ties with Ings, who remains their top scorer this season.

Ings, who has now entered the final six months of his current contract at Burnley, has become a target for both Tottenham Hotspur, and Spanish La Liga side Real Sociedad, having netted seven times for the Clarets this season, following on from his tally of 21 goals last season, as Burnley gained promotion to the Premier League, after finishing as runners-up to Leicester City.
