Man United target requires further knee surgery

Roma midfielder Kevin Strootman requires further surgery on his knee after aggravating the injury against Fiorentina on Sunday.

Strootman has been long linked with a move to Manchester United with boss Louis van Gaal keen on the midfielder.

The Dutch international was substituted in the 34th minutes at the Stadio Artemio Franchi on Sunday in which was just his sixth game following an anterior cruciate ligament injury, which he suffered last March.

Coach Rudi Garcia has played down the injury in recent press conferences, but the club confirmed that the Dutchman will undergo further surgery.

A statement revealed: “Yesterday Kevin Strootman underwent further diagnostic procedures with professors Van Dijk and Kerkhoffs, who previously operated on him.

“The examination revealed a mass of fibrous tissue (known as Cyclops Syndrone), which it is advised should be removed.

“The player is due to undergo arthroscopic surgery in Amsterdam tomorrow, during which the ligament will also be assessed.”
