Man City firmly out of race to sign Dortmund star

Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke is confident of keeping Manchester City target Marco Reus.

The German winger has been attracting interest from a whole host of European sides in recent months, with the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid, Juventus, Paris Saint Germain, Man United, Chelsea and Man City all showing interest.

The latter have been extremely keen but reportedly failed with early contact at the beginning of January and Watzke now believes that the Bundesliga side could keep hold of Reus.

“I still believe we have a chance of keeping Marco in his hometown,” he told SZ.

The CEO also denied reports that Kevin Krampl was a direct replacement for Reus and said that Dortmund have made no plans for Reus’ exit.

“Such interpretations don’t interest me. I would like to see both of them together this season for Dortmund. I hope to,” he said.

Dortmund return to Bundesliga action this weekend with a trip to Bayer Leverkusen in need of a victory after a dreadful first half of the season.
