Chelsea reach the League Cup final

Chelsea have beaten Liverpool 2-1 on aggregate to reach the League Cup final.

The two teams approached the game having played out a 1-1 draw in the first-leg at Anfield last week,  but an extra time winner from Branislav Ivanovic sealed Chelsea’s passage to the final, where they will now meet either Tottenham Hotspur or Sheffield United.

The game continued where it left off on Merseyside with a few altercations featuring the lively Diego Costa, who appeared to stamp on Emre Can in the early moments.

Raheem Sterling had Liverpool’s best chance of the opening exchanges but the lively winger failed to get past some last ditch defending by Kurt Zouma.

Ivanovic would then force a Chelsea chance as Eden Hazard came close, before Jose Mourinho’s side had a penalty appeal waved away after Martin Skrtel appeared to foul Costa inside the box.

After the break, Costa and Skrtel were involved in another incident as the former Atletico Madrid man looked to stamp once again.

Costa then forced Simon Mignolet into a good save, before Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard came close down the other end.

The game was then forced to extra-time and despite Liverpool’s dominance, Ivanovic would prove to be difference, netting with 10 minutes played.
