Manchester United and Chelsea handed boost in race to sign Bastian Schweinsteiger

Manchester United and Chelsea have been handed a boost in the race to sign Bayern Munich midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger, according to the Daily Star.

Talks over a new contract for the German International have slowed down between Bayern and the midfielder, subsequently alerting United and Chelsea.

The 30-year-old has been at Bayern Munich since 2002, and has accumulated over 325 appearances for the German giants, and it’d certainly be a significant change in his life if he were to move to the Premier League.

When discussing his future with Bayern, Schweinsteiger said to the Daily Star: “I have no pressure.

“I know what Bayern Munich means to me and Bayern Munich also knows what they have in me. We know each other very well.

“I feel very good again and I have gathered a lot of experience.

“I aim to play for three or four years at the highest level.”

It is unlikely that Bayern Munich manager Pepe Guardiola would want one of the club’s most prized assets to leave, but if a sizeable offer was tabled, a move could materialise.
