Opinion: Arsenal & Chelsea moving for Moussa Sissoko

Calum Valentine takes a look at Newcastle United’s Moussa Sissoko, who is being linked with a move to Premier League big-guns Chelsea and Arsenal.

Newcastle’s flamboyant powerhouse of a midfielder Moussa Sissoko is attracting interest from Europe’s biggest clubs and should a bid in excess of £10 million come in for the former Toulouse man, Newcastle’s controversial owner Mike Ashley may feel inclined to let Sissoko leave, which would surely be a ‘Knock Out’ blow on Newcastle’s already deteriorating season.

Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea are the latest in a long line of clubs to be linked with January bids for the Paris born player.

With frequent comparisons to Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira the box to box midfielder would be a sure hit with the Gunners.

However, Newcastle will not let their main man leave cheaply, bought for a bargain sum of 1.6 million the Tyneside club will be looking for near enough 10 times that figure if they are to part with their prize asset.

Moussa publicly exclaimed his love for Arsenal in a recent interview in his native France but he did also express his desire to stay in the North-east with The Toon till at least the end of the season.

Since then however former Newcastle manager Alan Pardew left the magpies in the lurch by leaving to join his former club Crystal Palace.

So it is yet to be seen if the circus that is Newcastle united will provide another chapter in their ever growing soap opera by selling Sissoko and adding to the fans misery.

In recent days, Chelsea have been linked with a £20million swoop for Sissoko and with Newcastle’s Managing Director Lee Charnley admitted in an interview with the Evening Chronicle that January sales aren’t impossible for the club, leaving Newcastle fans will be on tender hooks from now till February 2nd.
