Manchester United have spoken with super-agent Jorge Mendes over the services of Valencia defender Nicolas Otamendi and received a negative response.
The Argentine defender almost joined United before moving to La Liga from Porto in January, but Louis van Gaal’s interest in the centre back has not subsided.
Otamendi spent time on loan with Atletico Mineiro in 2014 but has since returned to Valencia and enjoyed a fruitful spell under the guidance of Nuno.
United’s interest has been heavily reported in recent weeks, but Mendes has told them not to make another approach.
The famed Portuguese agent is keen to build his relationship with Valencia owner Peter Lim and represents a number of players at Los Che, such as Andre Gomes, Rodrigo and right-back Joao Cancelo.
