Liverpool target’s exit hits snag

Rami

AC Milan’s pursuit of Liverpool target Adil Rami has reportedly hit a stumbling block.

The Serie A giants are still hopeful of landing the Valencia centre-half, who spent most of last season on loan at the San Siro, but TuttoSport claims a takeover bid for ownership of the Spanish club is holding up the deal.

Tycoon Peter Lim is, according to the report, still attempting to successfully engineer his arrival in La Liga and Milan chief executive Adriano Galliani is now prepared to wait until the takeover is official so he can talk directly to the entrepreneur.

A source close to Anfield told Football Express News that Liverpool have monitored the 28-year-old’s progress for many months but remain certain he will eventually complete the switch to Italy.

The Reds will instead turn their attention to other targets who can strengthen the heart of their backline, although they are likely to reassess the situation if Rami’s move to Milan breaks down completely.

The France international is likely to be sold for a reasonably small transfer fee as he has only one year remaining on his contract with Valencia.

He made a hasty exit from the club last term after falling out with team-mates and staff, having criticised his colleagues’ displays in public.

Rami made 20 appearances for Milan in the 2013-14 campaign, scoring three goals.
