Liverpool came from behind to hold Chelsea in the first leg of their League Cup semi-final on Tuesday evening.

The home side started the semi-final tie in good form, seeing captain Steven Gerrard come close in the early minutes, only to be denied by Thibaut Courtois, who would further go on to make a number of high quality saves.

However, just moments later and Chelsea would open the scoring as Eden Hazard converted his spot-kick into the bottom corner after Emre Can had fouled the Belgian winger inside the box.

The second half saw Brendan Rodgers’ side test Courtois’s goal on a number of occasions with the visitors happy to sit back and protect their slender 1-0 lead.

And, the home side did manage to make the breakthrough when Raheem Sterling, who went past Gary Cahill in the box, before slotting the ball into the bottom corner.

Chelsea seem favourites for next week’s second leg at Stamford Bridge but Rodgers will be buoyed by his player’s performance.
