Fortune: Van Gaal has spent enough money at United

Quinton Fortune feels Manchester United have spent enough money and need to concentrate on the players they have.

The Red Devils spent heavily last summer and have been linked with a whole host of new players this January with Mats Hummels, Miranda, Gerard Pique and others mentioned.

However, former utility man Fortune, who spent seven years at Old Trafford, believes that United boss Louis van Gaal has spent enough money and should focus on developing the younger players.

“They have the quality. Good young players,” Fortune told Perform.

The South African added with a smile: “They’ve signed enough players in my opinion, spent enough money.

“Going forward, in attack, you’ve got [Radamel] Falcao. They’ve brought in [Daley] Blind into midfield, [Marcos] Rojo the Argentinian and obviously [Angel] Di Maria, [Luke] Shaw at the back. They’ve got enough quality.

“Unfortunately they’ve picked up a few injuries. I’m sure when everyone’s injury free they are capable of putting on a great run.

“I just think it’s a matter of time before it will all click and we’ll see United hopefully – I’m trying to be positive here – back where they belong.”
