Former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder off to Dortmund

Former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder Lassana Diarra is edging closer to joining Borussia Dortmund.

The French midfielder was rated as one of the most accomplished midfielders when playing for Real Madrid in 2009 but his time on the field has somewhat deteriorated after spells with Anzhi and Lokomotiv Moscow, playing just 21 games in two years.

Diarra, who featured in the Premier League in the early stages of his career for Arsenal, Chelsea and Portsmouth has been strongly linked with a return to England with the likes of Tottenham Hotspur showing interest.

However, German side Borussia Dortmund are keen to offer him a contract this January and make the move of his free agent status.

Diarra, 29, has won the FA Cup twice (Chelsea and Portsmouth), plus been successful in La Liga, winning both the league and the Copa del Rey with Madrid.
