Atletico Madrid beat Real Madrid 4-2 on aggregate to progress in the Copa del Rey on Thursday night.

Real Madrid came into the game with the worrying thought of scoring three goals to be able to progress in the Copa Del Rey, after losing 2-0 at Vicente Calderon last week.

The Madridistas had high hopes that Cristiano Ronaldo would help them go through after winning the Ballon D’or just four days ago. However Atlético Madrid’s President Enrique Cerezo did not agree as just before kick-off as he said that there was nothing to worry about, as he believed his team were already through to the next round.

It took just under one minute for Atletico Madrid to score and extend their lead on aggregate to 0-3. The goal came from Fernando Torres, scoring his first ever goal at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Half way through the first half saw Atletico Madrid sit back and hold pressure from Real Madrid. However it didn’t last long as Sergio Ramos scored from a header after a great ball in from a free kick by Tony Kroos.

Minutes later and the home side had a great chance to score as Jan Oblak was nowhere to be found but Diego Godin managed to block a powerful shot from Ronaldo.

The second half kicked off in similar fashion to the first as Torres once again scored directly from the restart, thanks to another assist from man of the match, Antoine Griezmann.

Ronaldo scored the equaliser only five minutes after Atlético’s second after midfielder Isco found the Portuguese forward.

Atletico Madrid will now face either Barcelona or Elche in the next round.
