Ex-City hardman rules out Milan exit

AC Milan v Ajax Amsterdam - UEFA Champions League

AC Milan midfielder Nigel de Jong has dismissed speculation that he will look to leave the San Siro this summer.

The former Manchester City hardman, who is currently on World Cup duty with Holland, told La Gazzetta dello Sport that he has not requested a move and feels “perfectly at ease” with the Serie A outfit despite a turbulent 2013-14 campaign.

Under-achieving Milan finished the domestic season in eighth position in the table and failed to impress in the Champions League.

Rumours of de Jong’s departure began to circulate when his fellow countryman Clarence Seedorf was sacked as head coach after just four months at the helm, and replaced by youth coach Filippo Inzaghi.

However, he told the Italian newspaper: “In Milan I am fine and I have no intention of changing the team despite the change of coach.

“This is not the time to think about the club, but only the World Cup.

“I can only say that I never asked for the transfer to AC Milan and I feel perfectly at ease. Now I think about only the Netherlands, not the transfer market.”

The 29-year-old, a World Cup final runner-up with the Dutch side almost four years ago, left City in 2012 after failing to agree terms on a contract extension.
