Hammers could lose Barcelona man to Liverpool

Liverpool have jumped ahead of West Ham United in the race to sign Barcelona midfielder Alex Song.

TalkSport reported earlier this week that West Ham had grown confident of completing a permanent deal for the former Arsenal midfielder, claiming that his current loan spell at Upton Park was going really well.

The established football website claim that co-owner David Gold is confident of reaching a deal with Barcelona for the Cameroon midfielder, despite the transfer ban affecting the Catalan club.

The former Arsenal man found life hard at the Camp Nou and failed to establish a regular starting place, but since arriving back in England – has made a strong impact.

The likes of Tottenham Hotspur and former side – Arsenal, have all shown interest in his talents, but it is now Liverpool who are ready to make genuine contact.

Boss Brendan Rodgers sees Song as the perfect option to strengthen his midfield and allow Jordan Henderson to play further forward when Steven Gerrard leaves the club in June.
