Defoe excited by Premier League return

Jermain Defoe has admitted his delight at a return to the Premier League after all-but agreeing a move to Sunderland.

Defoe is on the verge of completing his move to the Stadium of Light after a drastic time in Major League Soccer with Toronto, a move which will see Jozy Altidore move the opposite direction.

The former Tottenham Hotspur striker, signed a four-year deal with the MLS side last year but his time with the North American side did not go according to plan.

And, he has now spoken of his excitement about returning to England.

“I felt so sharp. All that hard work has paid off. I can’t wait to start scoring goals for Sunderland,” Defoe told the Daily Mirror.

“Everybody knows how much I love English football and I still feel that I have a lot to offer.

“People might look at my age, but I have always looked after myself and I hope I can show that with my performances.”
