Man City leading race to sign Jay Rodriguez

Manchester City are leading the race to sign Southampton forward Jay Rodriguez.

The Premier League champions are already set to sign Wilfried Bony this January as they seek to push Chelsea for the title and reports across England have now claimed that they are also making advances for Rodriguez.

The England international is currently out of action due knee ligament damage but is likely to return in the final week of February.

However, the likes of City, Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool and Arsenal have not been put off by his absence, admiring his performances last season for both club and country.

Southampton have offered the 25-year-old an improved contract in a bid to keep him on the South Coast, but pressure from City is likely to halt such talks.

Rodriguez has netted 26 goals in 76 appearances for Southampton.
