West Ham lead race to sign Barcelona midfielder

West Ham United are confident that they can complete a permanent deal for Barcelona midfielder Alex Song, according to TalkSport.

The established football website claim that co-owner David Gold is confident of reaching a deal with Barcelona for the Cameroon midfielder, despite the transfer ban affecting the Catalan club.

The former Arsenal man found life hard at the Camp Nou and failed to establish a regular starting place, but since arriving at Upton Park – he has made a strong impact.

The likes of Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool and former side – Arsenal, have all shown interest in his talents, but Gold believes he is happy at the club and sees no problem with a permanent move.

TalkSport cite a Twitter comment made by Gold when asked about the chances of signing Song following Barca’s ban and he wrote: “They can sell but can’t buy.”
