Sterling set for new deal after Rodgers vote of confidence

Raheem Sterling is edging closer to signing a new Liverpool contract after a receiving promises that Brendan Rodgers will not be sacked.

Sterling has been Liverpool’s stand out player this season but doubts have grown over his pending future with the Merseyside club after talks over a new deal seemed to stall, given Real Madrid’s interest in the lively England international.

The youngster had been keen on a move to Spanish football, but after speaking with various board members through his agent, he is now fully committed to a new deal, after being promised that Brendan Rodgers will not be sacked.

Liverpool have been a shadow of their impressive form last season, sitting in mid-table; a standing which has seen many call for the head of the Northern Irish boss.

Sterling is very close to his manager, who he credits for his recent development and his rise on the international stage.

Whilst the fine details are being put on the contract, it is expected that announcement will be made in the coming weeks.
