Former ‘New Fabregas’ set for England return

Middlesbrough are considering a move for former Arsenal starlet Fran Merida, according to Goal.com.

The former Arsenal man who was dubbed the ‘New Cesc Fabregas’ is currently a free agent after being released by Brazilian side Atletico Paranaense last year and is currently in talks with a number of English clubs, both in the Premier League and the Championship.

Goal revealed earlier this week that Merida has been training with Middlesbrough, with coach Aitor Karanka watching the midfielder closely.

A source close to the player told the established website: “Fran has spent time with Middlesbrough – he is keen to move back to England.”

Merida joined Arsenal in 2005 from Barcelona, before returning to La Liga with Atletico Madrid, but poor performances saw him move to Braga and then make the move to Brazil.
