Arsenal in pole position to sign Lucas Silva

Arsenal are in pole position to sign Cruzeiro midfielder Lucas Silva after Real Madrid said they would not make January signings/

Injury problems at Real Madrid have seen Luka Modric, Sami Khedira and most recently James Rodriguez give Carlo Ancelotti a problem in terms of available midfielders.

And, the Italian boss has been keen on making a January move for Brazilian midfielder Lucas Silva, however, comments made by the club about possible signings in January have given Arsenal a ray of hope.

“Unless there are extraordinary circumstances, we will not bring reinforcements in the winter transfer market,” Real Madrid president Florentino Perez told Spanish radio station Cadena Ser. “Right now there are none.

“If Lucas Silva has to come, it will be in the summer under normal circumstances.”

Manchester United have been interested in the 21-year-old but it is understood that the Spanish giants lodged a bid in the region of £9.5m last month.

Whilst that bid was rejected by the Brazilian club, it is understood after reports in Spain and England that Arsenal have now had a larger bid of £11.9m accepted.

Silva recently helped Cruzeiro win the Brazilian title and has been heavily tipped as an important future member of the Brazilian national side.
