Paris Saint-Germain fans were stabbed yesterday following the Champions League tie with Barcelona, Catalan police confirmed.

The Ligue 1 champions were beaten 3-1 by Barca in the final Group F game, however, both qualified for the knockout stages of the competition.

Rumours spread on social media sites about the incidents involving sets of fans, whilst Catalan police announced on Thursday morning that two seperate incidents had seen two fans stabbed.

A statement released by the police confirmed said that “a French citizen” was stabbed “by two individuals dressed in dark and in a balaclava.”

A further statement said: “The police are working to clarify the exact circumstances of the incident and arrest those responsible.”

The incident follows the death of an Ultra during the La Liga match between Deportivo La Coruna and Atletico Madrid, and a bottle throwing incident involving Lionel Messi.
