Mancini responds to Vidic’s potential Man United return

Inter Milan boss Roberto Mancini has responded to claims that Nemanja Vidic may leave for Manchester United in January, saying the defender is still useful to the Italian club.

The Serbian defender called time on his career with Man United over the summer and made the move to Italy but he has since struggled with fitness and failed to break into Mancini’s starting eleven since the former Manchester City boss took over last month.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Vidic is now considering his future at the club, which has prompted talk of a move back to Old Trafford.

The 33-year-old still has contacts with the English club and with Louis van Gaal desperate to bolster his defensive options; could be the perfect signing.

However, Mancini has discussed the defender’s absence and links to United in a press conference ahead of his side’s Europa League tie with Qarabag.

“The rumours of Vidic in January? Today he is not able to play, while he could not against AC Milan due to physical problems.

“He has not trained a lot with the team, but if he is healthy then he will certainly be a useful member of Inter Milan.”
