Raheem Sterling has rejected a £70k new contract from Liverpool as Real Madrid look to sign the tricky winger.

    The youngster has been in fine form of late for Liverpool, coming off the back of a breakthrough season with the Reds last term.

    His performances have gained not only recognition from the England national team, but with a number of top European clubs, with Real Madrid keen admirers.

    And, it is the Spanish club’s interest which has left Sterling in two minds about his Liverpool future.

    Off the back of the Champions League defeat to Swiss champions Basel on Tuesday evening, Sterling rejected a new and improved contract offer, said to be around £70k per week.

    The 20-year-old is currently on £25k per week but rejected the deal as he is said to be unhappy following Tuesday’s defeat

    Real Madrid have previous with Liverpool after signing the likes of Steve McManaman and Michael Owen over the years.
