Roma: We have had NO calls from Man United for Strootman

Roma have denied any contact with Manchester United over the services of Kevin Strootman.

Manchester United’s interest in Dutch midfielder Strootman has been heavily maintained since the summer after Louis van Gaal took over at the club.

Van Gaal is well aware of Strootman’s ability and has been watching the midfielder recently after his return from injury which saw him miss the World Cup with his country.

Roma have been stubborn in their desire to keep the midfielder but reports in Italy claimed that the capital club would be willing to sell the Dutch international if they failed to beat Manchester City on Wednesday evening and progress to the knock-out stages of the Champions League.

And, despite various reports that a deal had been reached late on Wednesday night, Roma’s general manager, Mauro Baldissoni, has said that no contact has been made between the two clubs.

“We haven’t received any call from Manchester,” he told Sky Sports News. “We are not planning to sell Kevin.

“Kevin is young and he has a long contract. We definitely want to build our team around him.”
