Rodgers desperate to sign Chelsea’s Petr Cech

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is desperate to replace Simon Mignolet with Chelsea keeper Petr Cech.

Following the 1-1 draw with Swiss champions Basel on Tuesday evening which saw Liverpool exit the Champions League and qualify for the Europa League, boss Brendan Rodgers is keen to make several changes to his side in the January transfer window.

One of those changes is between the sticks as his concerns over Simon Mignolet’s form continues to cause problems for Liverpool on the field.

The Merseyside club have been strongly linked with Fiorentina stopper Neto in recent weeks but it is understood that Rodgers is now firmly confident of signing Chelsea back-up keeper Petr Cech.

Cech has fallen behind Thibaut Courtois in terms of a starting place at Stamford Bridge and is keen to find first team football once more.

A January bid is now likely to come with Rodgers likely to be given yet more funds to strengthen his side.
