Spurs striker returns to Africa for personal reasons

Tottenham Hotspur striker Emmanuel Adebayor has been given permission to return home to Africa due to “personal reasons” and will miss the Europa League clash with Besiktas.

The Togo international has not played for Spurs since returning from international duty in November, having not been selected in a matchday squad for any of the last six Premier League games.

The reasons have not been released by Spurs, but a statement has now been made after the former Arsenal and Manchester City striker returning to his native Togo.

“We can confirm that Emmanuel Adebayor has been given permission to return home for personal reasons,” read a statement from Tottenham.

“This is a private matter and so we will not be providing any further comment.”

Adebayor was recently involved in a row surrounding witchcraft, during which his mother had been accused of casting a spell on the striker.

The 30-year-old has now been granted permission to have time off until further notice.
