Wenger regrets Anderlecht draw as Arsenal finish second

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has been left regretting the 3-3 draw with Anderlecht which saw them finish second in Group D of the Champions League.

Wenger’s men had already qualified heading into Tuesday night’s visit to Istanbul where they beat Galatasaray 4-1 to further enhance their qualification.

However the Gunners failed to secure top spot, having missed out with a draw against Anderlecht earlier in the competition; a result which has left the French boss in regret.

“We came out strong and that’s what I wanted from these players,” Wenger told Sky Sports.

“There’s a little bit of frustration that we have finished runners-up, but we knew at half time we needed to score six goals without conceding.

“We won four games, lost one and had one draw. Looking back, we can maybe regret that point at home to Anderlecht.

“There’s some great teams in the draw for the last 16 and we need to wait and see who we get.”
