Champions League Preview: Anfield braced for Basel

Tuesday night’s Champions League action sees Liverpool face Basel in what is a must-win game for Brendan Rodgers’s side.

Despite just four points from their five games in Group B, Rodgers knows his side can progress to the knock-out stages with a win against Swiss side Basel.

However, the visitors arrive in good form and know that just a draw will see them join European champions Real Madrid in the next round, leaving the English side battling for third place with Ludogorets for a Europa League place.

Ludogorets face Real Madrid, who will no doubt rest some of their more established players, although Cristiano Ronaldo is likely to play as he pushes Barcelona’s Lionel Messi for the recently new all-time Champions League scoring record.

In Group A, Atletico Madrid and Juventus will face off in Italy, whilst Olympiacos will meet Malmo knowing that a defeat to Juve and only a miracle goal haul will see them progress.

Group C is a little more open with Zenit, Monaco and Bayer Leverkusen all capable of qualifying for the next round.

Monaco host Russian side Zenit, whilst Bayer Levekusen should seal three points against Benfica.

And, finally Group D sees Arsenal and Dortmund battle it out for top spot, whilst Anderlecht and Galatasaray are already out.
