Atletico Madrid will NOT sell Godin to Man United

Manchester United have been told by Atletico Madrid that Diego Godin will not be sold for less than his release fee of £28.5m.

Uruguayan defender Godin is believed to have a £28.5m release clause in his current contract with the Spanish champions and has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United, who are in desperate need to bolster their defensive options.

United boss Louis van Gaal has been forced to try young players this season at Old Trafford and although the young duo of Paddy McNair and Tyler Blackett have done well; the Dutch boss wants Godin to bring experience to his side.

However, Atletico Madrid have informed United that the defender will not be sold for less than his minimum release fee.

That does mean that United would have to fork out the £28.5m fee for Godin, which has left several question marks on their interest after Van Gaal spent heavily in the summer.
