Robbie Keane named 2014 MLS MVP

LA Galaxy forward Robbie Keane has been named Major League Soccer’s Most Valuable Player.

The Ireland international beat off New England Revolution midfielder Lee Nguyen and Seattle Sounders striker Obafemi Martins for the award.

Former Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa striker Keane scored 19 goals and assisted 14 in his 29 appearances for the Galaxy this season, seeing him finish third in the goals standings and second in assists.

He helped Galaxy finish second-best in the MLS with a record of 17 wins, seven draws and 10 defeats.

The LA based club celebrated winning the Supporters’ Shield over Seattle to advance to the MLS Cup on Sunday evening, where they will host Revolution.

Keane was also named to the MLS Best XI for the third straight season earlier this week.
