Cardiff City have today announced that defender Juan Cala has been released from his contract.

Cala, who arrived on a two and a half year deal, only managed to make eight appearances for the first team since arriving from Sevilla in February.

A brief statement on the Clubs website said: “Cardiff City Football Club can confirm that on Wednesday 3rd December 2014, Juan Cala’s contract with the club has been terminated by mutual agreement, and the player has left Cardiff City with immediate effect. We would like to thank Juan for his contribution and wish him the very best for his future.”

Cala also apologizedto Cardiff chairman Vincent Tan, who he recently accused of being behind him being sent to train with the clubs academy players, tweeting: “I wish to apologise to Vincent Tan for my recent comments. He had nothing to do with my move to the academy”.
