Deportivo La Caruna have announced today that, along with Atletico Madrid, they are banning the so called “ultras” that participated in violence taking place just before their recent La Liga clash.

Deportivo specifically mentioned the hardcore supporters group “Riazor Blues” in the statement, which comes shortly after the death of a member of that group as a result of the fighting near the Vicente Calderon.

A one minute silence will be held just before their next match, against Malaga on Wednesday, and will be hoping that this game can unite both home and away fans in “a demonstration against violence” said the President of the club, Tino Fernandez. “We want many of our citizens, who are against violence, to attend”.

This has, also been preceded by calls from senior figures both within Spanish football, and within the country’s Government, with Carlo Ancelotti recently pleading with La Liga bosses to learn from the way that the English FA has handled fan violence, which was a problem in the past.

Spain’s Minister of the Interior also pledged to find those responsible for the death of the Deportivo fan, named as Francisco Romero Taboada, and hold them to account for their actions, as well as creating lists to prevent known violent people and groups from entering stadiums
