David Moyes gains first Sociedad win with help from Carlos Vela

Carlos Vela’s hat-trick earned David Moyes a first win in charge of Real Sociedad against Elche on Friday night.

Moyes’ took over at the Anoeta last weekend and saw his first game in charge of the Basque club end in a 0-0 draw, but former Arsenal striker Vela was in inspired form to help the Scottish boss secure a victory.

It took just three minutes for Vela to get himself on the score sheet as he met Carlos Martinez’s cross and sent his bullet header goalwards.

And, Vela would be celebrating again just on the hour mark as a quick counter attack saw him played in on goal, before finishing low in to the bottom corner of the net.

The Mexican would then round of a complete performance as he nutmeg-ed an Elche defender, before tapping home.

The win lifts Sociedad three points above the Liga relegation zone.
