Spanish Press: Barca find a No.9; Vermaelen to be replaced

Luis Suarez, Thomas Vermaelen and an unknown Brazilian youngster feature in Friday’s Spanish press.

After scoring against APOEL in midweek, Luis Suarez is being hailed in Catalan media, with Mundo Deportivo exploding their front page with Suarez in full attire and the words ‘We have a 9’.

Meanwhile, over in Madrid, Marca have donned their front page with a picture of unknown Brazilian youngster Lucas, whom Real Madrid are looking to sign in January after the injury problems suffered by Luka Modric and Sami Khedira of late.

AS believe that Isco is the man to cover Madrid’s midfield, but deeper in the issue, Arsenal’s interest in the former Malaga man is heard, prompting concern amongst those that enjoy his presence at Santiago Bernabeu.

Back to Barcelona, infact, all over Spain and we look at the situation surrounding Thomas Vermaelen.

Informed by club doctors not to sign the former Arsenal man, Andoni Zubizarreta is taking much stick for his signing of the defender this summer.

Vermaelen is yet to kick a ball for Barcelona, bar a friendly for the B side against an Indonesian U19 side and is now facing another five months out of action.

Sport go on to report that Barca will ask FIFA to have their ban overturned to make one replacement signing.
