Former Chelsea midfielder Poyet ready to end their unbeaten run

Sunderland manager Gus Poyet is urging his players to perform against Chelsea and be the first team to beat them this season.

The Blues have not lost yet and maintain a strong lead at the top of the Premier League table, whilst also cementing their place in the knockout stages of the Champions League.

Poyet’s Sunderland side have been struggling of late and sit 14th in the table, but the former midfielder is insistent that his players can shock Jose Mourinho’s all-star cast.

“If you win every game, you get stronger and you get that feeling in the team that you can play badly and still win and at least get a draw,” the Uruguayan told the press.

“But the next team is the one who has the opportunity to stop them somehow and everybody is going to want to take that chance – and now the opportunity is for us.”

Poyet added that he did not think Mourinho had intentionally planned to remain unbeaten at this stage of the season.

“There are plenty of games to go,” he added. “I don’t believe the aim for Chelsea right now is to not lose a game.

“I think it is to win every trophy and if they need to lose one or two games. I don’t think they are going to be too bothered about it.”
