Mundo Deportivo claim that Barcelona defender Thomas Vermaelen could return to Arsenal in January on a short term loan deal.
The 28-year-old arrived at Barca this summer from Arsenal but has yet to make an appearance for his new club and is still nursing a number of injury problems which have troubled him for the past 12 months.
Vermaelen has been training of late with the first team but Gerard Pique, Jeremy Mathieu, Marc Bartra and Javier Mascherano are making it hard for the central defender to make his debut.
Rumours of more surgery needed are coming from Catalan press, whilst Catalan daily Mundo Deportivo claim that he is now being offered back to Arsenal for a short term loan deal in January.
Manchester United are also said to be keen on a six month deal.
